Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy visited Osmania University on Monday and inaugurated several newly completed buildings. Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister highlighted the historical, cultural, and political significance of the university, calling it the “twin of Telangana.”
He recalled Osmania University’s role in the 1938 armed peasant struggle and its contribution to shaping national leaders like former Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao, former Lok Sabha Speaker Shivraj Patil, and senior parliamentarian Jaipal Reddy. “Whenever Telangana faced a crisis, discussions and movements began here. This campus taught both knowledge and struggle,” he said.
The CM alleged that in the past decade, there was a conspiracy to weaken the university, but his government is determined to restore its past glory. He announced the appointment of Vice-Chancellors across universities, emphasizing that intellectual leadership must emerge from Osmania.
Revanth Reddy also warned against rising drug and ganja addiction among youth, stressing that education and awareness are the only ways to empower society. “I have no land or treasury to distribute. The only wealth I can give you is education,” he remarked.
He instructed officials to set up a committee of engineers to study development works and promised to transform Osmania University on par with global institutions like Stanford and Oxford. “If there is no Osmania, there is no Telangana. The university must remain a living testimony to history,” he added.
The CM further assured that he would return soon, hold a meeting at the Arts College, and sanction required funds. He directed police not to interfere with peaceful protests on campus during his visit.
Taking a dig at political opponents, he said some leaders were frustrated after losing power and were misleading students through false propaganda on social media. He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to strengthen Osmania University and provide all necessary support for students’ education and future.

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s visit to Osmania University (OU) on Sunday has drawn attention from political circles, particularly the BRS party, which closely watched the developments anticipating disturbances during the programme. Police, however, detained several students who attempted to stage protests against the CM’s visit.
For nearly two decades, no sitting Chief Minister had set foot on the OU campus. Known as the epicenter of the Telangana statehood movement, the university had long resisted political leaders, reflecting students’ anger and disillusionment.
After the formation of Telangana in 2014, expectations among students — particularly regarding government job recruitments — remained largely unfulfilled under the previous KCR-led BRS government. This led to growing resentment within the student community.
Revanth Reddy, who had visited OU in 2023 as PCC president and opposition leader, returned to the campus this time as the Chief Minister. During the event, he inaugurated newly constructed university buildings and assured students of his government’s commitment to restoring OU’s past glory. He promised to strengthen higher education, address students’ concerns, and uplift Osmania University to global standards.
Political observers note that Revanth’s outreach to OU — historically a hotbed of dissent — signals his intent to connect with the youth and intellectual base of Telangana, while also sending a strong message to his oppRipples
